Food Photography

Food photography is all about eating, meals, cooking, kitchen and recipes captured on camera. It is most certainly true that food photography belongs to the difficult types of photography because, not only we have to deal with light and lighting, but also with texture and arranging food for the viewer.

Having said that, this page of my site is all about food photography. You will see not only the finished dish but also the way how fresh produce, meat, ingredients and all the trimmings of a good meal are processed. All that is captured on camera to be published here.

Food photography essentially aims at watering the observers mouth by producing good shots of meals and ingredients. So what do we essentially need to get the job done? Basically one needs, of course, the ingredients, a good recipe and a functional kitchen. Yes, a good cook is the basis for success. After that we swiftly talk about camera equipment. What sort of technique do we need?

  • DSLR or mirrorless camera
  • tripod
  • tripod head
  • cable release
  • wide angle lense - EF 24-70mm f2.8
  • midrange lense - EF 50mm f1.2, EF 85mm f1.2
  • Diffusion panel
  • black foam boards
  • white foam boards
  • Strobe

Should we shoot raw or in jpeg? If one wants to get more out of the image than always go for raw.

Vegetable Photography

Day in day out there is a lot of food we consume whithout even thinking about it, let alone knowing where it all come from. In times where ready-made meals are all too much in common, or the quick snack bought at the super market it does make sense to look more carefully at what we consume and, even better, considering how to prepare healthy food onself.

In this section I show vegetable prepared for the camera. Hoping you will get some appetite.
